The AGM of the Carmarthenshire League took place tonight at Stebonheath Club.
The meeting was chaired by Les Griffiths who thanked everyone for attending. The treasurer Jean Wooller gave a report on the league's financial status, followed by Colin Jenkins who gave the Secretary's Report. He stated that with the help of all the clubs that the league had managed to complete all fixtures despite several near blank Saturdays through December and January.Teams must inform him by the end of July if they wish to play fixtures on September 6th when Wales play Azerbajan & by the end of August if they wish to play on October 11th when Wales entertain Leichtenstein. The league will commence on Tuesday September 2nd. Also clubs need to inform the league as early as possible if they wish to play over the Christmas period on 21st/28th December.
Arthur Jones gave a report as league registration secretary stressing the importance of returning correctly completed registration forms for players. The deadline for players wishing to play on Saturdays is 4pm on a Thursday to get registered or transferred.
Ray Jones gave a full report as Referee's Officer. He stated that although more games had gone without an official last season, that due to an increase in the number of clubs, more matches were played, so in percentage teams there had been an improvement. He stated that dissent is still a problem within the league, not just from players and officials but supporters also. He stated that if any referee is threatened next season he will instruct them to abandon the match. The league,as always are looking for more people to take up refereeing.
The existing officers of the league were re-elected with Len Pewsey taking over as chairman. Len was not present so new vice chairman Mike Davies took the chair.
The league awarded fair play trophies to : 3rd Llanelli 'A' : 2nd Suburbs : 1st Ammanford. We had a cheque of £25
Next was new teams and they certainly like to complicate things down Carmarthen way. The Jays formerly Johnstown Jays will just run one team. Carmarthen United will change to Carmarthen Town. Carway re-applied after a two year absence & Johnstown United who were formerly Johnstown Jays Reserves. All teams were accepted. If you followed that well done!
The new reserve teams were more straightforward. Loughor,Camford & ourselves applied to run 'A' teams, while Llansteffan,Penllergaer & Suburbs re-entered reserve teams. All were approved.
Phil Owen spoke on behalf of the Referees' Society and informed the gathering that there were no major rule changes. He wished everyone a good season.
Bob Waygood the secretary of WWFA was the final speaker and he opened by congratulating Seaside & Ragged School on producing one of the best WW Intermediate Cup finals ever seen. He also emphasised the importance of getting the registration forms completed correctly. He then handed out match balls to Tafarn Utd, Kidwelly, Johnstown, Ammanford, Llandeilo Town & Suburbs. Bancffosfelen received a match ball plus £250, while Pwll received a match ball plus £500.These were presented for their disciplinary records.
Acting chairman Mike Davies closed the meeting at 8.10pm.
